The upcoming Volkswagen Virtus facelift has been spotted testing again in India with less camouflage around the body, giving a clearer indication of the design changes Volkswagen is preparing for its updated midsize sedan. The latest test mule was seen on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, with camouflage mainly concentrated around the front and rear sections while the side profile remains largely exposed. The updated Virtus is expected to receive styling and feature changes as part of its first major mid-cycle update since its India launch in 2022.
The latest spy images suggest that Volkswagen is keeping the overall proportions of the sedan unchanged. The roofline, doors, window area and general side profile appear similar to the current model, indicating that the facelift will focus mainly on the front and rear sections rather than introducing a completely different exterior design. The test car also appears to feature revised alloy wheels, although the final designs and variant-wise availability have not yet been confirmed.
At the front, the headlamps, grille and bumper remain covered, which suggests that these areas will receive the most visible changes. Earlier prototypes have pointed towards a redesigned grille with a different mesh pattern, revised LED headlamp detailing and an updated bumper. The lower air intake is also expected to receive changes, while an illuminated Volkswagen logo has been suggested by earlier spy reports. However, Volkswagen has not yet officially disclosed the final design of the facelifted Virtus.

The rear section appears to receive a more noticeable redesign. The boot lid and bumper are heavily camouflaged on the latest test mule, while the tail lamps visible through the covering appear to have a revised internal LED signature. Earlier prototypes had also indicated changes to the rear lighting arrangement, with reports suggesting horizontal lighting elements and the possibility of a connected light treatment. Whether Volkswagen will introduce a full-width light bar on the production model has not yet been confirmed.
Inside, the dashboard and instrument cluster have not been clearly revealed in the latest spy shots, but the facelift is expected to bring updates to the cabin technology. Reports have pointed towards a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an updated infotainment system with revised software and interface elements. Additional convenience equipment is also expected, although Volkswagen has not disclosed the complete feature list or confirmed which equipment will be offered on individual variants.
One of the more important changes is expected to be mechanical rather than cosmetic. The 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine is likely to continue producing around 115 PS and 178 Nm, but the existing 6-speed torque-converter automatic could be replaced by an 8-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox has already appeared on other Volkswagen Group models in India, while the 1.5-litre TSI is expected to continue with around 150 PS and 250 Nm and a 7-speed DSG automatic.

The feature list could also expand with equipment such as a 360-degree camera and additional cabin convenience features, although these remain expected rather than officially confirmed. The latest test mule does not provide enough evidence to confirm the final equipment package, and Volkswagen is yet to announce the official specifications of the facelift.
With the Skoda Slavia already receiving its mid-life update, the Virtus facelift is expected to follow with its own set of exterior, interior and transmission changes. Recent reports point towards a festive-season introduction, but Volkswagen has not announced an official launch date yet. More details should become available as testing progresses and the sedan moves closer to its Indian market debut.
