Kia India records its best-ever wholesale volume for August 2026, with the company dispatching 29,042 vehicles during the month. That is a massive 48.1% year-on-year jump over the 19,608 units dispatched in August 2025.

For Indian car buyers, this matters because Kia is seeing strong demand for its SUVs while also expanding into EVs and hybrid technology. The Seltos and Sonet remain the volume drivers, while the new Syros EV is starting to add another layer to Kia’s sales.

Kia India Records Strong August Growth

The biggest number here is the 29,042-unit August wholesale figure. Kia had dispatched 19,608 vehicles during the same month last year, meaning its monthly volume has increased by nearly half in just one year.

The growth is also visible in Kia’s cumulative numbers. Between January and August 2026, the company dispatched 2,20,991 units, compared with 1,83,882 units during the same period in 2025.

That works out to 20.1% growth so far this year, giving Kia a strong run rate as it heads into the festive season.

Seltos Remains Kia’s Biggest Volume Driver

The Seltos continues to be the main engine behind Kia’s sales performance. Since the arrival of the new-generation model in January, it has averaged more than 10,000 units every month.

For buyers, this is important because strong sales usually mean better visibility on the road, wider service support and a larger used-car market over time.

The Sonet is also playing a major role. Its presence in the compact SUV segment gives Kia a product for buyers who want SUV styling and features without moving into the larger Seltos price bracket.

Syros EV Adds an Electric Option

Kia India Records 48% Growth

Kia is also seeing an encouraging response to the Syros EV, which has been positioned as another option for buyers looking at an all-electric compact SUV.

The company is trying to reduce one of the biggest concerns around EV ownership — long-term battery and ownership costs. Kia’s electric-vehicle ownership package includes an Assured Buyback programme, Battery-as-a-Service and a Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty.

These programmes could make the switch to an EV easier for buyers who are worried about battery replacement costs and resale value.

Sorento Is Kia’s Next Big Move

Kia’s next major India product will arrive on September 4, when the Sorento enters local assembly.

The three-row SUV will be a particularly important model because it is expected to become Kia India’s first hybrid SUV, while also getting a diesel powertrain.

This gives Kia a wider choice for buyers who are not ready to move completely to an EV but still want better fuel efficiency from electrified technology.

The company is also planning more SUVs, electric vehicles and hybrid models for India over the coming years. Its current sales and service network covers 910 touchpoints across 418 cities, while its Certified Pre-Owned business has 137 outlets.

Our Take: Is This Good News for Buyers?

I feel Kia’s August performance is a positive sign for Indian buyers. The company is selling strongly with the Seltos and Sonet while adding EV and hybrid choices instead of depending on a single type of powertrain.

For a budget-conscious buyer, the bigger benefit is the expanding sales and service network. However, high sales numbers alone should not be the reason to buy a particular Kia model — pricing, mileage, after-sales costs and resale value still need to be checked before making the final decision.

In my opinion, Kia’s strategy looks sensible: keep the popular Seltos and Sonet strong, add more affordable electrified options and bring the Sorento hybrid into local production. If Kia manages to keep ownership costs competitive, buyers could have more choices across petrol, diesel, EV and hybrid SUVs.
